The Legend of Sage Valakhilya

During the last phase of Dvapara Yuga, Sage Valakhilya was performing penance on the banks of the Sharavathi River. Narada then requested Lord Shiva and Parvati to send their son, Ganapati, to bless the sage and the land. Even the Hindu Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) had visited this place to end the demons. Narada invited the gods and requested Parvati to send Ganesha. Pleased by their devotion, Ganesha consented to remain at the site to help them conduct the rituals without any trouble.
